texts that accompany these portraits are the pure expression
of the subjects themselves, edited only for length, spelling,
and grammar. Those biographical statements that detail the
history of the area or particular coastal industry are given
pages or sections of their own.
Author biography: "As a professional
photographer for 30-plus years and a plein-aire painter
in oils, I wanted to meet local artists. I thought a great
way to break the ice would be to offer to take individual
portraits of them." Two years, 11,000 miles and 200 plus
roles of film culminated in the work "Mendonomans."
A graduate of Rochester Institute
of Technology with a B.S. degree in professional photography,
Bill Apton has had a successful 30-year career in large-format
studio advertising, corporate annual reports and brochures,
and commercial assignments that facilitated extensive
travel. His clients included Wells Fargo Bank, Pacific
Gas & Electric, Owings-Corning, Cris-Craft Industry, Geothermal
Resources, Inc., Freixenet, Fireman's Fund Insurance,
and Bank of America, among others.
Apton's work has been included
in the Ansel Adams Collection at the University of Phoenix'
Center for Creative Photography and by Superstock, the
worldwide stock photography agency.
